Teegarden & Van Winkle were a soulful rock duo from Tulsa, Oklahoma, known for their genre-blending sound that combined elements of rock, soul, funk, and blues. Consisting of David Teegarden (drums, vocals) and Skip "Van Winkle" Knape (organ, keyboards, vocals), the pair found national recognition in the early 1970s with their hit single “God, Love and Rock & Roll.” Though often categorized under the broad umbrella of classic rock, the duo's music showcased deep rhythmic grooves, gospel-tinged vocals, and a keyboard-driven sound that set them apart from typical guitar-led rock acts of the time. Formed in the late 1960s, Teegarden & Van Winkle began as seasoned session musicians and road performers, each with roots in R&B and early rock scenes.
