Eramus Hall

Eramus Hall was a funk and soul group known for their sophisticated grooves, spiritual lyrics, and smooth fusion of jazz, funk, and R&B. Their 1980 album *Your Love Is My Desire* has become a cult favorite for its uplifting message and analog warmth, while their 1984 follow-up *Gohead* reflected a shift toward synth-driven '80s funk. Though under-recognized in their time, the group’s music continues to resonate with collectors and genre aficionados.

The Happy Dragon Band

The Happy Dragon Band was the experimental synth-funk project of Detroit’s Tom Court, combining psychedelic themes, outsider lyricism, and analog electronics into a genre-defying musical persona. Though short-lived, the project became a cult favorite for its offbeat vision and raw, creative independence.

C. J. & Company

C. J. & Company was a Detroit disco group best known for their 1977 hit “Devil’s Gun,” a chart-topping dance anthem that became the first track ever played at Studio 54. Combining soulful vocals, lush orchestration, and a powerful funk-disco groove, the group left a lasting mark on the era’s club scene with a sound that was both polished and passionate.

Fuzzy Haskins

Fuzzy Haskins was a founding member of Parliament-Funkadelic, known for his gritty vocals, explosive stage presence, and songwriting on early funk classics. He played a key role in shaping the P-Funk sound and later released two respected solo albums in the late ’70s, cementing his place as a foundational figure in the evolution of funk music.

The 45 King

The 45 King was a legendary hip-hop producer and DJ known for his soulful, sample-based beats and iconic tracks like “The 900 Number,” Jay-Z’s “Hard Knock Life,” and Eminem’s “Stan.” A master of the breakbeat and an early mentor to Queen Latifah, he helped shape the sound of golden-era hip-hop and left behind a lasting legacy as one of the genre’s most influential beatmakers.

Detroit Emeralds

The Detroit Emeralds were a 1970s soul trio known for their smooth harmonies and funk-tinged R&B hits like “Feel the Need in Me” and “You Want It, You Got It.” Originating from gospel roots and rising through Detroit’s vibrant soul scene, they delivered timeless grooves that bridged classic soul and early disco.

Junie Morrison

Walter “Junie” Morrison was a pioneering funk artist, known for his work with the Ohio Players and as the creative mastermind behind some of Parliament-Funkadelic’s most iconic records. A multi-instrumentalist and producer, he fused humor, spirituality, and technical brilliance across solo and collaborative projects, leaving behind a legacy of fearless musical innovation.

The Clark Sisters

The Clark Sisters are a legendary gospel group from Detroit whose innovative harmonies and soulful sound helped transform gospel music. Known for hits like “You Brought the Sunshine,” they fused faith with funk, jazz, and soul, influencing generations of artists across genres while earning critical and commercial acclaim.
